Advanced College Project

In conjunction with Indiana University, Marquette Catholic High School offers courses in the Advance College Project (ACP), whereby students can receive college credit for some of the classes they take at Marquette.  For the 2008-2009 school year, Marquette will offer the following courses for dual credit (high school credit and college credit) in the ACP program: (A202) Literary Interpretation, (W131) Elementary Composition, (H105) American History I, (H106) American History II, (Y103) Introduction to American Politics.

Upon successfully completing an ACP course, a Marquette student will earn college credit towards an Indiana University degree (3 hours per course).  In addition, there are many colleges that accept the transfer of IU credits.  This is important because some Marquette students in the ACP program attend colleges other than IU. Our Guidance Department has a list of many of the colleges that accept IU credits.

In order to qualify for acceptance into the ACP program at Marquette, a student must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Students will pay IU tuition for any ACP class, but at approximately two-thirds the cost of on-campus tuition. For the 2007-2008 school year the IU tuition rate was $86.65 per credit hour, or $259.95 per ACP course.  Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is not expected to increase much, if at all. (IU bills students’ parents directly.  Marquette has nothing to do with this process.)

Students who attend Indiana University and have completed an ACP class(es), have already begun their college work, and as such have advanced standing status. Among other things this means that beginning the second semester of their freshman year they can register for courses before fellow classmates who did not have ACP credits.  This can be a big advantage because they will have a better chance to get the courses they want.

Participation in the Advance College Project is truly a fine opportunity for our students to get a head start on college work. It is certainly something to consider.
