MQT Girls Hang On For GSSC Win

Marquette's girls basketball team improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Greater South Shore Conference with a 41-40 win over River Forest on Friday.

Caitlin Cavanaugh paced the Blazers with 11 points, while Jen Igra chipped in eight. Nora Wall had seven points while Janie Welsh collected 11 rebounds.

River Forest (2-5, 2-1 GSSC) missed a free throw that would have tied the game in the closing seconds, allowing Marquette to hang on for the win.

La Lumiere makes it two straight

After starting 0-3, the La Lumiere Lakers have won two straight games after beating South Bend Trinity, 72-42, in the home opener.

Filip Stanic led the Lakers with 20 points. Sandi Marcius added 16 points, and Matt Culjack had 10 for La Lumiere.

Trojans rally for victory

Trailing by nine after three quarters, the Chesterton Trojans girls basketball team used a 23-9 advantage in the fourth to take a 60-55 victory over Merrillville on Friday night.

Dana Christensen led three Trojans (4-2, 2-1 DAC) in double figures with 16 points. Abby Skube added 14, and Morgan Palombizio scored 11 for the Trojans.
