Marquette Catholic High School Makes Additions to Advanced College Project
September 2008
Marquette currently offers six ACP courses – two U.S. History courses, an Introduction to American Politics, Elementary Composition, Literary Interpretation and Speech and Communications.
What does this mean for Marquette students? They potentially can accumulate 18 hours of college credit before they even enter college – or, in other words, more than a semester. Incidentally, an advantage to this is that by earning college credit before even entering college, can almost assure a student that he or she will graduate from college in four years. The grades that Marquette students earn in this coursework become part of their IU transcript. Financially speaking, parents only pay 2/3 the tuition that they would pay for an on-campus course.
Student who participate in the ACP program and enroll at Indiana University are automatically considered a freshman in advanced standing because they enter the university with coursework already completed. This also means that when these freshmen register for their second semester courses at IU they are able to register before the other freshmen and will get first choice for their necessary courses.
If a Marquette student takes the ACP courses and decides to enroll in a school other than IU, the hours they earned at Marquette transfer to hundreds of schools. A list of those schools is available in our Office of Academic Advising as well as online at www.acp.indiana.edu.
Marquette Catholic High School is proud to be a part of the Advanced College Project for the past 12 years and looks forward to continuing to add courses to our curriculum.
