An Evening of One Acts

The fall play this year will be very different from what we’re used to since it is broken into three different one acts. Even though it’s a different format it looks to be a great time. The three one acts are “!Artistic Inspiration,” “This is a Test,” and “Caution: Politricks.” Each of the one acts are wonderfully directed, and everyone involved seems to be enjoying it a lot.

“!Artistic Inspiration,” directed by Mrs. Crane, is about two aspiring playwrights that are trying to write the worst play ever. They think that “commercial garbage” is successful. The audience gets to see each attempt at “garbage” as it unfolds and then the fun results. The cast has two seniors: Erin Anderson and Mitch Fallon and three juniors: Sierra McDonald, Alex Mussa and Sam Taylor. This play sounds very interesting and it seems everyone is getting their roles down pat with only a few weeks to spare until opening night.

The next one act is “This is a Test,” directed by Mrs. Callahan. This is her first production and it seems to be coming along great. This one act is about a girl who is very nervous about a large test. She then tries to pull an all-nighter. When it is time to take the test, she can’t function right at all because of an over load of information. Sophomore Emmy Welsh, who plays the leading role, is enjoying this one act a lot and thinks all three of the fall plays will go great. The rest of the cast is comprised of freshmen Shaun O’Neill and Maura Washington, sophomores Caroline Alexander, Ellen Falk and Hala Filipowicz, juniors Hank Bobillo and Greg McCotter and seniors Mitch Fallon and Maggie McCarthy.

The final one act is “Caution: Politricks” which is directed by senior Kelsey Bolka. This is about a crooked item that needs to be straightened and passers-by can’t decide on which direction to move it: left or right. Therefore, it breaks into a full on political rally. Each group gets supporters for their side and use different techniques to persuade each party. Senior Cate Condon is working hard with this group of actors and actresses. She said, “They all are great people to be working with.” Other cast members include sophomores Carli Albers, Connor Lombard, and Meghan Roder, junior Jessie Sexton, and seniors Pat Dabkowski, Tyler Gonder, Katrina Lake, Belinda Ng, Ethan Post and Catie Vernon.

This year is something new, but it is looking to be a greatly successful event. Each play is between 15 to 25 minutes long. Opening night is November 14th and tickets for students are only $3 (adults $5). So, mark your calendars and go out to see three great productions by these groups of talented, young actors and actresses. Let’s hope that everyone can go and attend the fall play to support not only the cast, but also the directors and crew. Everyone involved has put in a lot of hours, practice, and preparation to make it a masterpiece.
