MUNCIE, Ind. - It wasn't quite as easy as it's been in years past, but that's just fine with Marquette's volleyball team.
The Blazers dropped a couple battles, but won the wars in winning a sixth consecutive Class A state championship Saturday at Worthen Arena in Muncie.
Marquette dropped a game in both the semifinals and finals, beating No. 1 Barr-Reeve 23-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16 before topping Wes-Del 25-18, 25-10, 23-25, 25-19 for the championship, the Blazers' ninth in 11 years.
"This is a very special group of girls," Marquette coach Troy Campbell said. "This is our sixth in a row, and it doesn't get any less exciting."
Marquette will be welcomed back to town this afternoon with a parade that starts at Patriot Park at noon and finishes with a rally at the Scholl Center.
