Dear Parents,

Now that we are settling in to another outstanding year in education, I would like to inform you of a few reminders, programs and initiatives that have evolved since August 16th. Although some of the information has been afforded in our Daily Doc, I wanted to highlight a few items for your attention.

  • Students received IDs last week.

  • Current students are invited to attend all home athletic events at no charge when presenting their student ID card at the gate. (New policy)

  • Family Athletic passes for the year: $150.00, Individual passes $70.00.

  • The $40.00 athletic fee is applied to our transportation budget for athletics. The fee does not support individual athletic programs.

  • Sadie Hawkins is scheduled for Friday, October 15, 2010.

  • College visits and representative visits are scheduled weekly. Please see The Daily for specific dates and times.

  • All parents and students should have access to Edline: if not, please email sbrenda@marquette-hs.org

  • All parents and students should be receiving The Daily..

  • All students have their own school email account: if not, please email sbrenda@marquette-hs.org

New programs/initiativesScaffolding program (Student learning initiatives)

As a means of affording all students success at school, the following opportunities are available after school from 2:45-3:15 (or later).  For some students, these opportunities are not optional and parents will be contacted regarding directed participation.

Some program examples:

Extended Science labs: AP Physics, College Geology 103-all students enrolled in these courses have directed extended learning. (M/W) - assigned classroom

Algebra I: Teacher directed instructional intervention (M, T, W, TH) - assigned classroom

Advisor/Advisee: Parent/student/teacher initiated mentoring program (daily) -see Mr. White for more information

Chemistry I, II: College professor assistance and support, directed and open to all, (Wednesdays) - Computer Lab/Scholl Center

Library: Open 2:45-4:30 (M, W, TH, F)

Homework Safety Net: All students are expected to complete 100% of their assigned classroom/home work. If a student has not completed all assigned work during a one week time span, they may be directed to attend and after school session with Mrs. Breen on Wednesdays. Completing 100% of assigned student work is not an option.

Peer Tutoring: National Honor Society, assigned, directed, and open to all, (T/TH-or by appointment) Scholl Center Library-see Mrs. Callahan for more information.

Late Start Friday: Intended to serve as re-teaching and make up time for all students. (F) 7:30 a.m. by appointment or open.

*All teachers are available for individual questions and support daily-please make an appointment if necessary.

Enrichment and intervention at Marquette Catholic will be directed, timely, focused on the "learning" and provide an appropriate response to individual accommodations. When these factors are in place, we increase the potential for all students to achieve great success in school. Again, the above programs are just a few of our offerings. My intent is to keep you informed as we develop our scaffolding approach to learning.

Finally, thank you to all those who supported our "Mums" sale. The $700.00 profit will be included in our tuition assistance account. With each dollar donated, we become that much closer to funding another student's opportunity to attend Marquette Catholic.

If you ever have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our main office. From here, we can direct you to our appropriate resource.
