Message from the Principal
Spring 2010
Welcome to Marquette Catholic High School, home of the BLAZERS!!!
As principal at Marquette Catholic, I am proud to announce that we have been working diligently to meet and exceed this year's strategic planning goals. As of February, 2010, our enrollment numbers, advancement goals, and academic achievement for students are ahead of expectations. This year we have collaboratively drafted a vision to be "The high school of choice" and our revised mission continues to focus on what is best for students and their religious, academic, and social development.
Currently, there are 171 students enrolled at our 9-12, Catholic high school. This figure surpasses our budgeted goal of 170 students for the year. By building community relationships and promoting student excellence through our faith-based, college preparatory curriculum, we have been able to positively impact enrollment. Over 55 freshmen have registered for the 2010-2011 academic year. Next year's budget is based on 185 students. If our projected growth continues, we forecast 220 students for the fall of 2013!
As of February 2010, 97.5% of our senior class has been accepted to college. Our revised mission has allowed us to focus on providing all students with a college preparatory experience. Our mission has forced us to re-examine course offerings, leading us to extend early-college credit opportunities for juniors and seniors in math, science, English, and Social Studies. We have added and mandated an ACT/SAT and Financial Literacy course for all juniors. Our service learning program now includes a college interview portfolio designed to document and promote service beyond self. All of these program additions and updated academic information will be available online and CD this spring.
Additional changes you can expect to experience include a new look for our "Daily." Our revised format allows us to better manage and present important school related information. A new course description catalog will be released in March. This catalog includes all of the revised offerings, grade point change information, support services, a four-year academic planning model and scheduling information for fall 2010. We are also in the process of constructing and remodeling an art exhibition area to meet the applied learning needs of our National Art Honor Society students. Our library will also undergo changes as we remove outdated print materials and increase student technology access.
Change is a reality at Marquette Catholic High School. Everyone wants things to be better, but how many want things to be different? Meeting the needs of our student learners today requires us to think and act differently. I personally thank all of you who support our "change" efforts at Marquette Catholic and the extraordinary Catholic high school experience we extend to all of our students. Your financial gifts, personal time, and commitment to affording our students the best possible education is so greatly treasured and appreciated.
With Faith in Our Future -
Sincerely,
James G. White
