Kairos

A Kairos retreat is a multi-day spiritual awakening activity. The purpose of the retreat is to help the participants contemplate their relationship with God, discover their own identity and build stronger bonds with their peers.

Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time lapse, a moment of indeterminate time in which everything happens.

MQT holds Kairos off campus and those who participate are juniors and seniors.  Kairos 2017 is planned for November 1st - 4th. Kairos 2018 is also planned for the spring. #livethefourth

Service-Learning Retreats

Students also have the opportunity to put theory into practice during our three-day service retreats. Already this semester, the Lourdes Student Retreat Center has hosted two retreats that are both faith and community-based. Our service learning retreat goals are five-pronged: reflect on how the Eucharist calls us, engage in concrete acts of service which are interactive, develop a deeper understanding of issues faced by persons who are vulnerable, engage in analysis to understand the "root causes" of problems and issues in the light of our Catholic faith, and prayerfully identify actions to take in response.

Students spent seven hours engaging in hands-on community service near the Student Retreat Center in between prayer, reflection, and guest speakers. The spiritual trip concluded with a Mass service before returning to campus to instill in their peers the power of Jesus Christ.

Tolerance

Students not attending Kairos partake in experiences that concern tolerance and diversity. They take in the Holocaust Museum and the following day reflect together, as a group, on the feelings that exhibit conjured.  The visit The Shrine of Christ's Passion and work at the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

Other students participate in a service experience and catechistic development. They listen to presenters on relevant topics and breakout into groups to discuss feelings and reactions.

Faith Formation: Retreats

In everything we do, we believe in challenging the traditional way of educating our students. We believe in thinking critically and inspiring them to do the same. We do this by encouraging them to be driven, to be global, to be passionate, to be connected, to find faith, to discover God and to work for the Common Good. We ask our students to embrace high expectations, to become exceptional and, ultimately, change the world.
